Equine Assisted Therapy
Horses are very spiritual creatures and extremely intuitive. This means they are able to sense our emotions and react to the energies and vibrations we give off. Being around a horse can raise your spirits and bring a feeling of calm and serenity to your inner being.
Bryn Tawel is one place where the benefits of a horse’s energy is utilised for the aid of individuals who are in need of help with emotional issues such as stress depression, bullying, self confidence or even a fear of horses. For those who are lucky enough to have none of the for mentioned, it is still an experience not to be missed.
Sarah has owned and worked with horses for all her life and learnt the techniques of natural horsemanship, which she discovered could help, not only horses but people too.

Sarah discovered natural horsemanship in a bid to help Jumbo, who had been bought for her to compete in dressage competitions. He turned out to be so mentally damaged from the training he had experienced previously that he would not perform. Natural horsemanship is a way of communicating with horses the way they communicate with each other. Allowing them to structure their standing in a group. It is basically all about body language.
All the horses at Bryn Tawel have been trained in this way.
There is an Arabic saying “The horse is a mirror”. Horses are not judgmental and will do what you ask….. If you ask properly. Horses social structure is fluid, they use leader follower games, they are constantly giving each other feedback and they will do the same with you, bringing out your communication and leadership abilities. They give us accurate and unbiased feedback because they read our body language so accurately and react accordingly.
Clients are shown how to control the horse within an enclosure and they will achieve the horse joining up (following) at its own free will, a feeling that as previous visitors will tell you are nothing short of exhilarating.
There are four white horses that are used at Bryn Tawel for this work; they are Jumbo, Tabby, Video and Gliss. All horses are chosen specially for their ability to work well and respond to people that they do not know.
This work does not involve any riding what so ever.
